Meghan Markle and the Queen traveled by royal train (yep, that's a thing) during their first official outing together - sans Harry - to Cheshire on Thursday.

Kate Middleton has yet to travel on the royal train, but her first solo outing with Queen Elizabeth was, in many ways, similar to Meghan's.

Flashback to March 2012: the Duchess of Cambridge joined Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Leicester as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour, which celebrated her 60 years on the throne so far.

The Queen and Kate were first spotted at London's St. Pancras Station while on their way to De Montfort University and Leicester Cathedral. They were photographed throughout the day looking very friendly and happy together.

The major difference between Kate's and Meghan's first official solo outings with the Queen is that Kate had already been married to Prince William for almost a year. Meghan, as you all remember, only married Prince Harry less than a month ago - which means Meghan participated in her first solo royal outing much quicker than Kate did.

Meghan wore custom Givenchy for her solo outing with the Queen, while Kate opted for a teal suit by L.K.Bennett and a James Lock hat. Notably, Meghan didn't wear a hat for her day trip with Queen Elizabeth, striking a much more casual look than the Duchess of Cambridge did.

The Duchesses may have very different styles, but the Queen seemed impressed and content attending royal events with both Meghan and Kate.
