The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have openly supported the LGBTQ+ community in an Instagram post to “shine a light on Pride”.

The post, which went live at 6am, has already gained thousands of comments of praise.

Their official Instagram account rotates the accounts the pair follow based on “causes and social issues that matter” to them.

The post said “We stand with you and support you. Because it’s very simple: love is love.”

Fans think that Meghan Markle wrote the post as it went live at 6am. After all, who else is up at 6am on a Saturday other than a new mum?

There was an outpouring of support for the post.

British diver, Tom Daley, was one of the first to comment “this is just awesome” after being open about the struggles he has faced because of his sexuality over the years.

Another person wrote: “You two are doing amazing by constantly standing up for what you believe in and what is right.”

This isn’t the first time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have used their platform to support matters close to their heart.

Both Meghan and Harry and William and Kate support mental health charity, Heads Together.

Last month, they supported Mental Health Awareness week.

As part of their support for the LGBTQ+ community, they shared nine different accounts.

The accounts included: Pride and The Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ youth, based in the US.

A few followers were disappointed to see so many American organisations being highlighted.

One user wrote: “Why so many US-based organisations? As members of the Royal family, I would think you would try to [sic] highlight UK charities and maybe support ones that don’t already get a ton of press and support.”
