Meet the woman behind the meteoric rise of “Teen Vogue”

It’s official: Elaine Welteroth is Teen Vogue‘s new editor-in-chief! The kid sister of the fashion world’s most popular publication, Vogue — and the family’s cross-continental cousins British Vogue, Vogue Turkey, and more! — has grown up before our very eyes in the last year, speaking out on political and social issues facing women, people of color, and other marginalized communities, while still serving up solid celebrity, style, beauty and entertainment news.

But it’s the woman behind the magazine’s extraordinary rise in readership (some 9.2 million unique visitors to the publication’s digital platform in a single month in 2017, up from three million per month just a year earlier), former-editor-turned-EIC Welteroth, who’s nurtured the glossy from teen title to woke-ass woman must-read.

Since joining Teen Vogue as the publication’s beauty and health editor in 2012, Welteroth has made an indelible mark on the magazine, bringing to the Condé Nast family table a unique editorial eye that prioritizes inclusivity, offering a fresh perspective on the issues facing young adults today.

Also. This woman’s personal style is on fire!

Did we mention that, at just 30 years old, Welteroth is also the youngest editor-in-chief in Condé Nast’s 108 year history? She’s truly remarkable.

Prior to joining Teen Vogue, Welteroth served as beauty and health editor at Ebony, as well as senior beauty editor at Glamour. Before becoming EIC, Welteroth was Teen Vogue‘s beauty and health director, then its editor.

“Elaine is incredibly in tune with the Teen Vogue audience and has used that unique insight to engage and connect with her readers on a very personal level,” Anna Wintour, artistic director of Condé Nast and editor-in-chief of Vogue, said in a statement.

“Over the last year, she has demonstrated a fearless leadership in her pursuit to make Teen Vogue the voice of a new generation, and we look forward to all she will accomplish in her expanded role as Teen Vogue’s new editor-in-chief.”

We couldn’t agree more!
