Fans of the Paramount+ hit Mayor of Kingstown have been anxiously awaiting news about the show's fate since it wrapped up in March 2023, and today the streaming service finally allayed their fears with an announcement that the show will indeed return for a third season.
Part of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan's ever-growing roster of shows, Mayor of Kingstown stars Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, a powerful figure in the titular town, whose landscape and economy is dominated by the prison industrial complex.
Per the series's official synopsis, "Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither. "
Renner will reportedly be returning to for the show's third outing. His return had not been guaranteed after the actor suffered traumatic injuries in a snowplow accident on New Year's Day 2023, just weeks before the show's second season debuted. At the time, the star was hospitalized with 30 broken bones and has since continued to share glimpses of his recovery on social media.
In May, he fueled rumors that he could be returning to the show for another outing, with a post on X (then Twitter) with a clip from the show and the caption, "Might be time to start mental preparation for 3?"

Given Renner's rehabilitation, as well as the ongoing strikes of both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions, it's not currently clear when the new season could go into production or when it might be expected to hit our screens.
We will continue to update this post as new information becomes available.
