Matthew McConaughey Gave His Beloved Texas Longhorns a Pep Talk Before Epic Overtime Victory

Matthew McConaughey's beloved Texas Longhorns started off their college football season strong on Sunday night, with a double-overtime victory over the No. 10-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who drubbed them for a 39-3 loss last season. Before the game, McConaughey paid the team a little visit, doing his best Coach Taylor as he psyched the players up for a win.

"Notre Dame, who handed it to you last year, [is] coming into your house Sunday night," the Interstellar star told his alma mater team during a pre-game practice. "The whole world's watching."

McConaughey even used some of his own career advice to psych up the Texas players, who opened their season in primetime at their home stadium in front of a school-record crowd of 102,315 attendees.

"You don't get rid of fear or nerves by saying, 'I'm not nervous,'" he proclaimed. "You admit it. I've had many times where I go up on my first day of shooting and I've got my big scene and I've learned that. I just say it out loud...Use those nerves. You ought to have some butterflies. That means you can play at your peak ability."

The actor also told the players to leave everything on the field, and they did, besting the Irish 50-47 in a wild, double-overtime game that saw everything from a blocked field goal to a returned extra point attempt.

"When it's time to get out there, focus, commit to what you've got to do… let it f***ing rip, man," McConaughey told his hometown team. "You got one game right now and that's Sunday… One in a row can start for you on Sunday night."

We're sure the actor's feeling more than alright, alright, alright about the impressive victory, and we wouldn't be surprised if head coach Charlie Strong calls on McConaughey for another pep talk this season. Hook 'em Horns!
