Alright, alright, alright... quiet at the back.

Matthew McConaughey has been appointed to the Department of Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin (his alma mater) as its new professor of practice.

The Interstellar star has been a visiting tutor at the University in his hometown for the past four years, but now he's been given an officially appointed.

McConaughey teaches on the Script To Screen class, at the university's Moody College of Communication, for which he helped to develop the curriculum, which looks at the process of film production.

“It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school. Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them,” McConaughey said.

“Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art – no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus.”

McConaughey qualified with a film degree from UT Austin in 1993 before soon moving into acting, landing his small but influential role of David Wooderson in fellow Texan Richard Linklater's Dazed & Confused the same year.

Added Moody College Dean Jay Bernhardt: “We are proud to welcome Professor McConaughey to officially join our world-class faculty.

“Matthew cares deeply for our school and our students, and we are thrilled that he shares his time and talent to help prepare the next generation of media leaders and innovators.”

McConaughey will be a professor of practice at the faculty, a title given to tutors without a PhD.

In the coming semester, he will teach classes on the movies The Gentleman, his forthcoming crime comedy being directed by Guy Ritchie, and 2012's Mud, the director of which, Jeff Nichols, will come in an discuss making the movie with students.

Last year, McConaughey hosted a class with director Yann Demange, who helmed his movie White Boy Rick.

One student, Maryanne Maxwell, told the Texas Monthly: “He just drops those wisdom bombs all the time and that’s kind of how his Academy Awards acceptance speech was and that’s just how he talks normally.”
