12 Dec – There's been some reshuffling of Warner Bros.' upcoming releases. Most notable are the changes to Taika Waititi's "Akira" and Keanu Reeves-starrer "The Matrix 4".

The live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga of the same name was supposed to start production this year but had to be postponed as director Waititi is focusing on "Thor: Love and Thunder" instead.

It seems now Waititi will have no distraction while helming the fourth "Thor" instalment for Marvel, as "Akira" has been taken off the release schedule.

Originally slated for release in American cinemas on 21 May 2021, Deadline reveals the slot has now been replaced with "The Matrix 4".

Interestingly, this puts the new "Matrix" movie, which is expected to begin production early next year, on the exact same opening day as Reeves' other upcoming work, "John Wick 4".

When the "Matrix" reboot was first announced in 2017, Reeves expressed disinterest in returning unless the Wachowski sisters are also involved again. It was confirmed last August that he will be reprising his starring role as Neo, since Lana Wachowski will be back to co-write and direct.

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will be returning for
"The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It".

Other changes made to the release schedule include two of James Wan's works. His "Mortal Kombat" reboot, originally dated for March 2021, now has an earlier 15 January 2021 release. As for his third "The Conjuring" movie, it now carries the title "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" and will be released on 11 September 2020.

Meanwhile, the Ezra Miller-starring "The Flash", to be helmed by "It" director Andy Muschietti, is now scheduled to open on 1 July 2022. Miller will be reprising the role for the third time, having previously played it in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and 2017's "Justice League".
