It looks as though He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will be back in 2019.

After updating its release calendar, Sony Pictures has finally offered up an official release date for the upcoming ‘He-Man & the Masters of the Universe’ reboot – 18 December 2019.

But it’s not all good news…

It’s been in the works for some time, so it’s great to finally find out when ‘Masters of the Universe’ will appear in cinemas. But while Sony has finally pinned down a release date, it looks as though they’ve also lost the film’s director.

That’s right – McG is no longer on board.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ director has now left the project, despite being attached to the ‘Masters’ reboot for some time.

“He-Man has the power — but he doesn’t have a director,” they revealed. “McG (Charlie’s Angels), who has been on board to direct the long-discussed Masters of the Universe reboot since early 2016, is no longer attached to the movie and Sony is meeting with directors.”

Who will eventually helm the reboot?

At the moment, that remains unclear… but it looks as though they’ve found a writer.

“David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel) is writing the screenplay for the event film.”

Of course, David S. Goyer is a big name when it comes to comic book movies, working extensively with Warner Bros. to bring ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Batman V Superman’ and even the upcoming ‘Green Lantern Corps’ to the big screen.

But who will land the iconic role of He-Man?

“On the casting front, EW has also learned that many actors, including A-list talent, are vying for key roles.”

Unfortunately, those names remain to be seen.

But it sounds as though ‘Masters of the Universe’ is finally getting off the ground.
