‘Masterminds’ Trailer: What Could Be Simpler Than A Multimillion-Dollar Heist?
It’s been more than a year since we got a new trailer for Masterminds, the action comedy that had been mired in Relativity purgatory. But here it is: Average guy David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) drives an armored car for a mundane living, with his only hint of excitement being a work crush on Kelly Campbell (Kristen Wiig). But that’s about to change.
These two having the job of carting around millions of other people’s dollars, it would seem so easy to skim a little. Or a really lot. Right? As their new co-conspirator (Owen Wilson) says: “How hard can it be? You load up a truck, and you drive away.” Yes, these not-hardened criminals have a not-foolproof plan, yet they pull off one the largest cash thefts in history. Minor problem: The cops are on to David, and his face is all over TV. Would his partners in crime double-cross him to keep the loot for themselves?
Ken Marino, Jason Sudeikis, Devin Ratray, Jon Daly, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones co-star in the pic from director Jared Hess. Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer and Emily Spivey wrote the script, which is based on a true story and includes a redefinition of “putting a cap in your ass.” Relativity Studios opens the pic September 30.
