As 2022 Ren-Yin Year of the Tiger is here, everyone would love to have a wonderful start in different ways to boost their luck in the upcoming year. Here are four secret Feng Shui tricks for you to try.

Trick 1: Use money to make money

Before the Chinese New Year arrives, prepare ten new one-dollar coins prior to thoroughly cleaning the house. When the cleaning is over, keep two coins and divide the other eight coins into four groups of two to scatter them towards the four corners of the master bedroom, allowing them to roll over to the corners.

The rolling sound symbolises ‘fortune rolling in from four directions.’ If the coin stops before reaching the corner, simply push it to the corner, symbolising ‘the gathering of fortune and energy.’ The two coins you keep can be put into a red packet. Place the packet on your bedside table or in the drawer of a desk, representing the Mother of Money.

When the Lantern Festival is over, collect all eight scattered coins. You may use the eight coins to buy money-collecting items, while the two coins of the Mother of Money can be saved in the bank with other money, meaning to make money with money.

Trick 2: Make money with five coloured beans

Did you know that the colourful beans we eat can attract fortune when arranged in the right order? Here’s a simple method you can follow to make your own money attractor.

Ingredients:

Glass bottle, green bean, red bean, soybean, white bean and black bean

Instructions:

Put the beans into the glass bottle in this order: the green bean first, then the red bean, soybean, white bean and, lastly, the black bean. This represents the five elements – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The wood produces fire; fire creates earth; earth is where metal can be found; metal produces water, and water is needed for plants to grow. Place the bottle in your kitchen, which represents the bank, to continuously grow and attract fortune.

Tip:

The beans you use should be similar in size. Clean and dry the bottle properly before use. If mould is found in the bottle, get another bottle to put the beans in.

Trick 3: Use red envelopes as the money collector

The red envelopes received on New Year’s Eve can be kept for use in this task. No matter whether they are given by the old or the young, you can put all the envelopes under your pillow to sleep on. This is seen as a blessing and attracts wealth.

You can also prepare notes equalling 168 dollars to put in a red envelope. For example, you can have two fifty-dollar notes, six ten-dollar notes and eight one-dollar notes. Between 11pm and 11:40pm on New Year’s Eve, place the red envelope at the entrance to your house and cover it with a doormat or rug. When you walk out the door the next day, it will have an auspicious annotation of ‘walking on the road of making money in spring’.

Trick 4: Attract wealth with a Wen ruler

The Wen ruler, also known as a Luban ruler, is a ruler specially used to measure and calculate sizes in feng shui. In folklore, the Wen ruler is also a tool for praying for good luck and fortune. The common Wen rulers are tape measures, but you must use the old-style yellow ruler type to make it work. You can find this type of ruler in most Buddhist shops.

Between the end of the national spring holiday and the Lantern Festival, select a day that is suitable for worshipping and does not clash with your zodiac sign and age. At a propitious hour, stick the ruler to the left side of your desk, adjacent to the desk leg near you. If you’re sticking the ruler to your office desk or the desk in a rented house, make sure the way you stick the ruler won’t damage the desk when you take it off.

When you stick the ruler down, make sure you stick it down on the side with the black adhesive characters, with the red side facing out. Also, make sure the end with the word ‘Cai (wealth)’ is on the top and ‘Ben (root)’ is on the bottom, thus improving your luck and attracting wealth. You don’t have to consecrate the ruler or place it above the burning incense at a temple, but the effect will be better if you do.

The four tricks above have taught you how to use handy materials to attract wealth. Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year.
