Hitting the road looks very different these days than it did before a global pandemic turned the idea of sitting in a cylinder of circulated air with a bunch of strangers an even less appealing prospect than it already was. Still, everyone needs an escape from time to time, whether that means hopping in the car and heading out of town or simply slipping on some headphones and tuning out the world. That's the idea behind the recent team-up between the audio specialists at Master & Dynamic and travel brand Away.

"The world of travel—and the world in general—has changed a lot since this collection was first conceived," says Master & Dynamic founder and CEO Jonathan Levine. "But our goal was, and is, to create a collection that celebrates the transformative power of sound and music to remind you of a specific place or time." In practice, that translates to a capsule collection of Away and Master & Dynamic's greatest hits, like the former's aluminum luggage, daypack, and carryall, and the latter's over-ear noise cancelling headphones and wireless earphones.

"Sound enhances the travel experience by allowing us to relax, energize, escape, or focus. We’ve always wanted to work with a partner on a collaboration that speaks directly to this crucial, sensory part of travel," says Selena Kalvaria, chief marketing officer at Away. "When you think about leading brands in the audio space, Master & Dynamic definitely tops that list."

The collection's sleek aluminum-and-leather materials—a hallmark, even before this partnership, of each brand's aesthetic—makes for a vibe that's a little fancy, a little functional, and entirely welcome whether you're actually on the go or just chilling out at home. It's also the sort of look that, though it certainly feels of the moment, is designed to last a long while. "Each detail is engineered to be convenient, beautiful, and durable," says Levin. "That type of dedication to design is a common thread between our two brands and can be seen throughout this capsule collection."

If you're still not convinced—hey, you do you—then consider this: 100 percent of the net proceeds from the collection will go to MusiCare's coronavirus relief fund, a non-profit serving the music community, which has been particularly hard-hit by the pandemic. In other words, you can buy some really great headphones or luggage (or both!) and know that the money is going to folks who could really use the assist right now. The whole collection goes live tomorrow, October 13, at both the Away and Master & Dynamic websites. In the meantime, maybe curate a new playlist or two. They'll come in handy very soon.
