Marvel Want James Gunn To Direct Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, He’s Still Unsure

The success of ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ back in 2014 means that it’s hard to imagine anyone other than James Gunn overseeing sequels to the blockbuster

Of course that’s exactly what he’s doing at the moment, as he’s currently shooting ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2′ in Atlanta. But one sequel is no longer enough.

In fact, the question over whether James Gunn will direct ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 3′, which hasn’t even been confirmed, has already been posed to the filmmaker. Unsurprisingly, he’s still unsure and has more pressing matters to concern himself with.

James Gunn told a Facebook Q&A he conducted on the social media website, “Right now I really am just concerned with doing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′. I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this… Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do.”

“I really just want to make ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that’s as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.”

James Gunn’s potent mixture of hilarity and heart was one of the main reasons why ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ was able to connect with an audience and evolve from a cult into a mainstream commodity, so much so that it grossed over $773 million at the box office.

If Gunn did depart the franchise after ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2′ then it would be hard for further instalments to replicate the same winning tone. However continuing for a 3rd or even a 4th ‘GOTG’ film would also starve the cinematic world of his original material.

Either way, with ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2′ release date of May 5, 2017, still over 14 months away, James Gunn still hasn plenty of time to figure out what his future holds.
