Marvel China apologises for "Avengers" event backlash

25 Apr – Following the backlash of last week's "Avengers" event, the Marvel China promotion team recently released a statement to fans of the franchise to apologise for their blunders.

According to Mingpao, in an official statement released on its Weibo account, the organiser stated that the team only intended to try new ways of promoting a movie in China, especially since Marvel is one of the biggest cinematic franchises in the world.

"However, this event has failed to exceed people's expectation. We are fully aware that this has disappointed our most cherished fans. We have heard you, and each and every one of our fans' opinions are very important to us."

"We take full responsibility for this, and sincerely apologise to those who have always supported Marvel. Without you, there is no Marvel in China today."

The apology came after fans expressed anger over the way the "Avengers: Infinity War" event in Shanghai Disney Resort was organised. Aside from the usual crowd control issues, fans also had to watch the performance from local artistes like Jane Zhang, Aaron Yan, and Eason Chan that had nothing to do with the movie.

They were also angered by the fact that the stars of the movie, including Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Hiddleston had to give space for the Chinese stars and share the stage with them awkwardly.
