Marvel gearing up to film 'Black Panther 2' in July 2021

Marvel Studios are planning to begin filming on the sequel to Black Panther in July next year, according to reports.

Plans for the second movie in the series, centring on Chadwick Boseman's Wakandan nobleman T'Challa, were axed following the tragic and unexpected death of Boseman in August. He was just 43.

However, now Marvel is moving ahead with the second film, per an exclusive in The Hollywood Reporter.

Ryan Coogler will be back behind the camera, with Letitia Wright (Shuri), Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia), Winston Duke (M'Baku) and Angela Bassett (Ramonda) all expected to return.

It's not yet known how Marvel will deal with the death of T'Challa in the movie, though it will doubtless be part of the story, though according to the THR report, it's thought that Wright's Shuri, sister of T'Challa, will take on a more substantial role.

The studio has previously said that it has no intention of using CGI to bring Boseman's likeness to bear in any new Marvel movies.

But the timing of filming next July, in Atlanta, would suggest that the movie will arrive in either late 2022 or 2023.

Thus far, Marvel has not commented on the report.

However, it has much on its plate currently, with a slate of new movies having been significantly delayed, and a suite of new TV shows set to land on Disney+.

The movies and the new TV shows, which include the likes of WandaVision and Loki, will all intertwine with each other, in the same way the previous phases of the MCU have.

Upcoming for the big screen is the much-delayed Black Widow, due in May, 2021, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in July, 2021, Eternals in November 2021, Thor: Love and Thunder, due in February, 2022 and Doctor Strange In The Multi-Verse of Madness in March, 2022.
