Have you ever smelt a body spray and though: “Hmmm, not Marmite-y enough”? Well, your prayers may’ve been answered thanks to Marmite’s new collaboration with Lynx.

While the male grooming brand and popular spread hardly seem to be a match made in heaven, Marmite lovers would argue that the spread goes with anything - including body wash and spray.

The scent, which has been described as “for all lovers” has certainly divided opinion, much like Marmite itself.

We must admit, though, the combination of scents do sound pretty desirable: “it combines notes of white moss and green herbs with woody scents of creamy sandalwood”.

Oh, and also - Marmite.

When the collaboration was released, many people naturally assumed that because we were in the coronavirus lockdown during the last April Fools’ Day, Marmite and Lynx had decided to fool us a little later this year.

But no, this is the real deal.

“By combining two iconic legends that have shaped dating and breakfast culture across the nation, we have created a product like no other that is sure to get lovers and haters spreading the news,” Jamie Brooks, Lynx Brand Manager, announced.

“We’ve created the scent for all the lovers, whether that’s Lynx or Marmite, but with the controversial nature of the spread, believe it also might help in keeping the haters at arm’s length.”

The controversial spray (£3.65) and wash (£2.64) are both available in Sainsbury’s and Morrisons now and the collaboration will role out in further stores from 1 July.

In true Marmite fashion, the responses were mixed.

One fan said that the smell of Marmite floating around would make social distancing extra hard.

“Thanks Lynx, this is going to make the 1m rule hard to keep,” they admitted, speaking about the new rules that will begin to come into effect in England.

“Can I spray it on my toast?” Another eager Marmite lover questioned. We’re going to go with a hard no on that one, folks.

People who have already got their hands on the goods aren’t all enthused, though.

One not-so-convinced person wrote: “Trust me when I say this... it’s vile.”

Another described the two products as “great” but was a little reserved about whether they would merge together that well: “Like pizza and ice cream. Two great things but they really shouldn't go together.”

The lockdown hasn’t been an easy ride for Marmite, which had to stop production of some of its larger jars due to a yeast shortage.

“Due to brewers yeast being in short supply (one of the main ingredients in Marmite) supplies of Marmite have been affected,” the brand announced on Twitter.

“As a temporary measure we have stopped production of all sizes apart from our 250g size jar which is available in most major retailers.”
