Marmite has confirmed a hack for getting the most out of each jar that went viral on Twitter really does work.

It all started when one social media user suggested the reason for Marmite’s unusual jar design (which features a flat side) is to make it easier to scrape the dregs out.

"It took me years to realise that near-empty Marmite jars should be kept on their side so you can the last of it out more easily. That’s why the jar is flat is the sides," he wrote.

The hack has clearly blown people's minds.

Despite the tweet going viral and many believing John’s theory to be true, he revealed that he made the whole thing up.

"I made that thing up about the Marmite, by the way. I’ve no idea. I don’t keep it on its side, I’m not an animal," he said.

The saga didn't end there, as Marmite then confirmed the hack really does work.

A spokesperson for the brand said:

"We know that our Marmite lovers will go to any length to enjoy every single drop, so whilst this was not the original intention of the jar’s flat sides, it’s great to see Marmite fans inventing new ways to spread the love."

Love it or hate it, this is one kitchen hack worth remembering.
