As anybody who has had their birthday during the coronavirus lockdown will attest, having your special day without a Colin the caterpillar cake just isn’t the same.

M&S clearly heard us, because the food store has launched a birthday bundle delivery service to bring hampers to those of us with impending birthdays.

Since 13 May, lockdown restrictions have been slightly lifted, but it’s still no easy feat to put together a birthday package for your loved ones.

The chocolate cake, plus a balloon-dressed gift bag and a pack of gummy (vegetarian) caterpillar sweets will cost you £20 and will be delivered to your house.

You can order it directly to somebody’s house with a personalised gift note or opt to have one delivered to yourself - regardless of whether it’s your birthday or not.

If we’re ever in need of a whole cake to ourselves, it’s now.

If you’re not that into Colin, Marks & Spencer has launched a whole host of different hampers for delivery.

First up, there’s a four-tiered rainbow cake complete with a bottle of sparkling rosé for £30.

And, if you’re feeling particularly indulgent, there’s everything from high-tea hampers to cheese and wine selections, coming to a maximum of £100 per hamper.

Some of the more decadent looking hampers have a very Christmas-looking feel to them.

If you’d rather select the cheapest option, you can get yourself a £10 classic chocolate cake - covered in milk and white chocolate ruffles - with candles included.

Since this is most-likely a birthday or special occasion treat, Marks & Spencer is allowing people to pick nominated day and next-day delivery slots for their surprises.

For those star bakers amongst us who couldn’t possibly eat a shop-bought cake after their lockdown baking success, you might prefer a fresh bouquet or a candle hamper.

You might be celebrating your birthday in lockdown but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for a virtual call as your only treat (like those of us that had our birthdays in March and April...)

There’s one caveat to all of this cake-fun, though. M&S is currently sold out.

Rest assured, it plans to open up its delivery slots again soon, but eager shoppers will need to be quick.

“Delivery slots are limited so we recommend customers place their orders in advance – and keep checking back as new slots are being added.” M&S explained to customers on Twitter.
