Mark Lee slams attacks on TVB reporters and artistes

18 Jul – TVB CEO Mark Lee Po On finally broke his silence regarding the ongoing protest against the company and its artistes, stressing that TVB has never been biased against the anti-extradition bill protesters as previously alleged.

As reported on Mingpao, in a memo issued to TVB staff, the CEO stated that the company has always remained impartial in its reporting.

"However, a series of incidents against this station have exceeded common sense and seriously interfered with the freedom of the press. Reporters of this station have suffered from a series of militant attacks. Some broke the windows of our news vehicle, reporters were insulted and personally attacked.

"In addition, some even harassed our advertisers, block artistes from attending mall events, and complained about our programmes. These actions are beyond the bottom line of peaceful rationality," he stated.

Mark added that the company resolutely opposes any person's use of these means in an attempt to influence the professionalism, impartiality, and neutrality of their reporting.

"These methods cannot prevent TVB from continuing to provide a large number of multi-angle live news broadcast operations. News reports must comply with the requirements of the CA's TV program code to ensure accuracy, balance and fairness," he added.

TVB has been facing a number of issues since protesters accused it of being pro-establishment. Several events had to be cancelled due to threats of protesters coming to cause problem, and some even attacked two journalists from the station during a rally on Sunday.

Earlier this week, an event attended by Kenneth had to be cut short due to the arrival of nearly a hundred protesters expressing their anger towards the company.
