It looks as though ‘may the Force be with you’ might not cut it anymore…

Appearing at Star Wars Celebration, acting legend Mark Hamill revealed that he’s been recording some dialogue for the upcoming sequel… and it includes some great catchphrases.

“I was looping dialogue [for ‘Star Wars 8′] yesterday and I was like, ‘I can already see this on a t-shirt’… there’s so many great lines,” he said. “[Director Rian Johnson] will make you forget about ‘may the force be with you’ there’s so many great catchphrases.”

Unfortunately, Hamill wouldn’t give us a snippet of those… even though the fans were obviously keen. But he did have a lot to say about the secrecy behind filming the new ‘Star Wars’ movies.

And it seems he’s not fussed.

“It can be really annoying and intrusive,” he said. “You get call sheets [on set] and everybody’s got a number. You look at the call sheet and you’re like ‘I love 22’s work, she’s twice as good as 11’.”

But while he may find it all a bit stifling, he appreciates that it’s all for the sake of the fans.

“They’re not doing it to annoy you,” he said. “It’s just they want the surprise to be in the movie theatres, not on the internet. That’s what it is. You don’t want to know what you’re getting for your birthday.”

“I understand why they’re doing it but it can get really out of control with the pages that get shredded every day,” he explained. “I’m in the elderly recluse phase of my career – I need old school, I need a script that you can write on, that you can take home and read.”

Of course, the legendary Star Wars actor took plenty of questions about ‘The Force Awakens’… despite his extremely short appearance. And it seems that even he wasn’t quite expecting such a short scene.

“I thought it was a really great surprise, but I don’t think they prepared me correctly,” he explained. “I went to training and lost all this weight so I thought I must be doing something physical if they’re sending me to the gym twice a week. I think they could have prepared me a little better.”

“All that workout where you lost weight,” he added… “You’re gonna have to turn and you remove your hood.”

“I was really nervous,” he added. “I was like, ‘I hope this works, I hope this works’.”

But things weren’t quite as easy on his co-star and potential Padawan, Daisy Ridley.

“We got really lucky with the weather [on Skellig Michael] and you never know – this is a country where you get all four season in one day… but we got very lucky, Basically, we had to sit around and hope the light comes through and it’s okay,” he said.

But climbing the mountain for take after take was tough.

“It’s brutal – you keep climbing and climbing and climbing… they cut out all of the bits of Daisy Ridley – it took her about 4 hours to get to me.”

As for the future of ‘Star Wars’ Hamill is optimistic… but says that it’s not about Skywalker.

“It’s not about me anymore – it’s the story of Rey and Finn and Poe and all of them and that’s the way it should be.”

‘Star Wars 8’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
