Margot Robbie Almost Joined The Fantastic Four

It turns out that ‘Suicide Squad’ star Margot Robbie had a bit of a close call… after almost landing the female lead in the critically-panned ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot.

During an interview with NY Daily News, the 25-year-old actress revealed that she came very close to playing Sue Storm in the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot.

“I didn’t really resonate with the script,” she said. “I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t really know how it turned out different from the page.”

Of course, the creative differences between director and studio have been widely rumoured… and while it seems unlikely that we’ll ever get to the bottom of what happened on ‘Fantastic Four’, one thing’s for certain – it failed to ignite the box office.

“But I had a great meeting with the director [Josh Trank] and I really enjoyed that,” she added. “I guess it’s part of the game: Sometime you win some, sometimes you lose some.”

After landing the role of Harley Quinn in DC’s upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ movie, I can’t help thinking that Margot Robbie definitely won this one. After all, set pictures from the ‘Suicide Squad’ movie look rather promising… and she managed to avoid being associated with one of the biggest superhero flops of the decade.

And it sounds as though she’s had a lot of fun with ‘Suicide Squad’.

“I guess the one common denominator is we’re all bad guys, it just makes everything more fun that way,” said Robbie. “The scenes are more interesting I feel, when you just don’t know how the characters are going to react, especially with Harley, who’s absolutely nuts… she’s either going to kill you or laugh and give you a hug.”

Of course, Jared Leto is set to star as The Joker – the most iconic of Batman villains. And Margot Robbie thinks he’s going to nail it.

“What he’s doing with the character is so cool,” she said, describing his transformation as “pretty impressive.”

“At first it was kind of confronting [to see him up close] but now I’m so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused,” she explained. “Actually, I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him. I was too scared to go up and didn’t know who that person was, and when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable.”

‘Suicide Squad’ stars Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhar, Jay Hernandez and Adam Beach as a group of supervillains who have been rounded up by the US government in order to carry out dangerous missions in exchange for a reduced sentence.

Viola Davis stars as the head of Task Force X, Amanda Waller.

‘Suicide Squad’ heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
