‘Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing’ Trailer: HBO Docu Follows The 3-Year Story

A cowardly attack and a frantic manhunt, followed by a modicum of closure. That’s how many outsiders likely remember the awful events of April 2013, when terrorist brothers detonated a pair of bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. But what about the people most affected by the crime and its aftermath? HBO recounts that day — and the weeks, even years that followed — with Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing, which tracks the experiences of those whose lives were changed forever.

Here’s a trailer for the documentary produced in association with the Boston Globe, which won a Pulitzer for its coverage. Writer-director-producers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg follow events as they played out that day and over the next two years to the death-penalty sentencing of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The film features surveillance footage, news clips, home movies and exclusive interviews with survivors and their families, as well as first responders, investigators, government officials and Globe reporters. During the course of three years, a newlywed couple, a mother and daughter, two brothers – all terribly injured by the blasts – face the challenges of physical and emotional recovery as they and their families strive to reclaim their lives and communities in the wake of terrorism.

Nancy Abraham, Sheila Nevins, Jake Abraham and Jameka Autry also produced Marathon, which premieres November 11 — Veterans Day — on HBO. Check out the trailer above.
