Man Utd trust in Ten Hag to be tested with risky midfielder move confirmed to be under consideration
Man Utd are ready to ‘take a risk’ with the potential signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich after a recommendation by Erik ten Hag, per a report.
Ten Hag previously launched Gravenberch’s career at Ajax, before they both left the Dutch club last summer. While the manager came to the Premier League with Man Utd, Gravenberch went to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
Things have not gone to plan since for the midfielder, who has only started two league games for Bayern. Subsequently, he has been linked with an exit from the club after just one season.
Liverpool are among his admirers, given their need to strengthen in midfield. However, Man Utd have also been mulling over the idea of reuniting Ten Hag with Gravenberch.
According to the latest from Football Insider, Ten Hag has recommended Gravenberch to Man Utd. As the report says, he fits the bill as a ‘powerful and athletic’ midfielder, which is a profile Man Utd want to add to their squad.
Like Liverpool, whose work on a deal is already underway, Man Utd are planning to ‘take a risk’ by bidding for Gravenberch in the summer. Promisingly, Bayern are ‘willing’ to allow the frustrated Dutchman leave.
Under contract in Munich until 2027, it is unclear how much Gravenberch might cost for whoever his next takers may be, or whether his next move might be a loan.
Man Utd consider second raid on Bayern Munich
Currently, Man Utd have Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern until the end of the season. The Austrian ace’s future beyond this season remains unclear; he could potentially swap places with ex-Bayern colleague Gravenberch or line up alongside him again for either club.
For now, both players will be focusing on finishing the season with their respective teams. Beyond then, they will face intriguing summers in which their futures might be intertwined – or maybe not.
About to celebrate his 21st birthday, Gravenberch will be keen to leave this season behind him and get his career back on track. Previously, Ten Hag was unlocking his potential at Ajax.
He might be the ideal coach to recover Gravenberch’s self-belief, which in turn could lead to the 11-cap Netherlands international having an impact for Man Utd if he was to move to Old Trafford.
But his future is still all to play for as Liverpool try to beat Man Utd to the punch.
