Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been told why Brighton’s Evan Ferguson could be exactly the striker the Red Devils need this summer if they fail to land the likes of Harry Kane.

United boss Ten Hag is ready to go all out to bring in a new big-name centre forward to lead the line next season. Having waved farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo in controversial circumstances in November, United have relied upon loanee Wout Weghorst to not too good an affect.

Indeed, having scored just twice in 27 games for the club, it is highly unlikely his loan will be made into a permanent deal. Furthermore, Rio Ferdinand named the four United stars who will be feeling more than aggrieved at the Dutchman’s regular selection in the United side.

So with United due to move on and target a big-name and undoubtedly pricey replacement, a number of star names have been linked. Indeed, the likes of England captain Kane and Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen are both being strongly mooted as targets.

However, deals for either striker will be notoriously difficult to pull off. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would be loathe to see his star man leave, especially to United, and would understandably demand a huge fee.

It’d likely be a similar scenario with Aurelio De Laurentiis and Osimhen. That said, Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk explains why United have pulled the plug on any such approach anyway.

The club continues though to explore potential other options. To that end, Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani are among those also under consideration.

United told Evan Ferguson would be ideal striker signing

However, former Everton, West Brom and Sunderland winger Kevin Kilbane is adamant Ferguson should be the man they target.

The 18-year-old frontman has enjoyed a fantastic breakout season for Brighton, netting an impressive eight goals in 20 appearances.

Such has been his impressive form that is has led to speculation that Liverpool are already keeping a watch on him for the future.

However, Kilbane, speaking to the Off the Ball football show, claims he is ready for a big move now. And he’s listed 10 reasons why Ferguson has all the attributes required to reach the very top.

“I think he’s got everything. There’s so much to admire about his game,” Kilbane said.

“What he has is that physical presence, he’s six foot three, he can run off the shoulder. He’s also got that little bit of pace.

“He works the channels well, he’s got that sort of side to his game. But the standout feature to his game is where he comes off into the little pockets playing as a 10 on the half-turn. He can take the ball with his back foot with the ability to run at defenders and the ability to pick a pass out.

“[He’s] good in air, I mean what doesn’t he have? We’re all extremely exciting about him because we know the ability that he’s got.”

Brighton sticking huge fee on striker

Roberto De Zerbi’s side reportedly value Ferguson in the £100m bracket already in a bid to put off his suitors.

Kilbane agrees though with Brighton’s assessment, claiming the teenager is destined for a hugely-successful career.

“He’s got something very, very special and I wish him all the very best in his career. I think he’s got a huge future ahead of him, hopefully staying injury free.

“He’s had a couple of problems with his ankle, hopefully he can correct that.”

Despite Kilbane’s commendations, it seems unlikely United will make a move just yet. As a result, Ten Hag is more likely to plump for a more experienced striker to lead the line.

All the same, Ferguson does look another excellent prospect. And he’s already proven yet another incredible find by Brighton’s brilliant network of scouts.
