Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are competing to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to reports.
The Red Devils have been attempting to offload the Netherlands international all summer with it becoming clear he has no future at Old Trafford.
Despite an unsuccessful six-month loan spell at Everton in 2021/22, Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag – who worked with Van de Beek at Ajax – decided to keep the Dutch midfielder around his squad for the 2022/23 campaign.
But Van de Beek was limited to just seven Premier League appearances last term and he has dropped down the midfield pecking order at Man Utd further with the summer signings of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat.
There were rumours that he could leave before the end of the transfer deadline in England on September 1 but he ended up staying past the cut off.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said ahead of the deadline that Van de Beek still had a “very high chance” of leaving Man Utd.
Speaking on the eve of deadline day, Romano said: “In terms of departures in that position for United, I think Donny van de Beek still has high, very high chances to leave. There are some options, but not Lorient or Genoa as of now, despite rumours.”
And now Man Utd are still hopeful they can sell the Netherlands international before the window in Turkey closes with Football Insider claiming Galatasaray and Fenerbahce ‘are among the sides monitoring the situation’.
Man Utd ‘would like to move the midfielder on’ before the Turkish deadline with claims the Red Devils could settle for a fee as low as £12m, a £23m loss on the £35m they paid Ajax for him in 2020.
Eric Bailly and Fred already found the Turkish Super Lig as a way out of Old Trafford with the pair joining Besiktas and Galatasaray respectively.
Van de Beek has been omitted from the Red Devils’ Champions League squad with Man Utd ‘keen to free up even more squad space and wages’ and they have suggested to the Dutchman that he ‘should make a move away from the club for the good of his career’.
He is yet to play any minutes this season in any competitions and it’s clear that Ten Hag doesn’t see Van de Beek as part of his squad for the season.
