According to reports, Manchester United have been informed that Fiorentina will not let Sofyan Amrabat leave the club on loan this summer.

The Red Devils have spent over £150m this summer to sign Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund for significant fees but they are hoping to do more business before the transfer window closes.

With it now looking likely that Harry Maguire will be staying at Man Utd until January at the earliest, they are unlikely to sign a new centre-back in the next couple of days.

But United remain in the market for a new centre-midfielder and it has been widely reported throughout this summer that Amrabat is their preferred target.

Amrabat has caught the attention of clubs around Europe as he shone for Fiorentina and Morocco during the 2022/23 campaign.

Man Utd have been waiting to offload players before they officially make their move for Amrabat but it was reported on Wednesday afternoon by The Athletic’s David Ornstein that they ‘are now attempting to agree a loan deal for the Morocco international’ with ‘a permanent deal unlikely because of United’s financial fair play situation’.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is now reporting that ‘Fiorentina rejected offers from Manchester United and Galatasaray for Amrabat’ His report adds.

‘Fiorentina is holding firm on the Amrabat front. The Viola have rejected all the loan offers received in Florence, including a further offer that Manchester United has made in the last few hours.

‘Galatasaray also approached the Moroccan midfielder, but so far without success.’

Earlier this month, ex-Man Utd forward Louis Saha emphasised his former club’s need to sign a new midfielder.

“Manchester United could benefit from the addition of another midfielder because you hear rumours that Fred or Scott McTominay could leave the club this summer,” Saha told Betfred.

“You definitely need to have two defensive midfielders in your squad, so if Fred or Scott do leave this summer, then you’re going to have to bring another player in. Marcel Sabitzer also left the club in the summer as well.

“Amrabat is a player that I really like and he’s got a great intensity level that I don’t believe is matched. It would be exciting to see him at Manchester United and he would improve the overall balance of the squad.

“We need legs, we need energy and we need strength that can help us upset teams. Mason Mount is another player that can provide the team with more energy as he’s one of those footballers that runs eleven kilometres a game.”
