When you live in a small town, everybody knows everybody from the postman to the new family who just moved in down the street. But the last thing you expect to discover is that you’ve slept with your girlfriend’s mum.

Taking to Reddit for advice, one 21-year-old explained that there are only three clubs in his hometown so it’s normal to nudge shoulders with the same people.

A few months back, he spent the evening at a rock bar and ended up bagging a woman’s number after hitting it off. Fast-forward a few weeks and they bumped into each other once again. But this time, he spent the night at her place.

“I noticed she was a lot older (maybe around 40) than anyone else I've slept with before, and I'm 21, so pretty much double my age but she looked good so I figured I'd learn a thing or two,” he wrote. “All I've learnt now is how to regret more efficiently.”

After the pair called it quits, he turned to Tinder and ended up going on a date with a 19-year-old also from the same area.

“We hit it off and after a few really good dates she invites me back to her place (I live a 20 minute drive away). As I walk down the street, I notice it's the same one as my previous bonk,” he wrote.

“My heart sank when I watched this lovely girl turn to face me, say ‘This is me!’ while gesturing to the same door that I went through for a cheap one night stand.”

After realising that her mum was home, he knew that he had to come clean about the situation.

“I knew she was level-headed from our first few dates so thankfully she actually understood and didn’t attack me for it,” he continued. “We do agree we can’t keep seeing each other (duh) but I really did like her, which can be rare for me, so it f**king sucks.”

“She didn’t mention her parents’ marriage and I don’t want to ask. I also don’t know how the house was free a couple of months ago,” he continued. “All I know is I f**ked up.”

In response to the candid post, one Reddit user praised him for being honest.

“F***ing props man for telling the truth,” one commented. “You're a gem and any girl would be lucky to have you. Sorry about your rotten luck though.”

Another couldn’t see the issue with continuing to date her, writing: “I think coming clean is fine, but I don't see a problem with continuing a relationship.”
