The Man Behind the Perfected Singapore Sling Cocktail Mix

The Singapore Sling is a gin-based cocktail from Singapore. This long drink was developed sometime before 1915 by a Hainanese bartender working at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore. This iconic drink has made its way to one of the world's top 10 cocktails. Even the Former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, mentioned the iconic drink during his toast at the state dinner saying that "We were tempted to offer each of you a Singapore Sling".

Vanilla Luxury: Share with us a little about your background?

H S Chow: After completing my MBA in Finance in the States, I returned to Singapore and spent a few years managing a company that produced juices. I decided to then venture out and start my own businesses starting with supplying F&B to schools, equipment and IT managing systems to the hospitality industry and finally had the opportunity to establish the True Heritage Brew Singapore Sling®.

Vanilla Luxury: How did you get into the cocktail business?

H S Chow: In the 1980's, after Raffles Hotel Singapore was re-built, I took on the challenge tasked by them to develop a consistent, pure and of quality Singapore Sling® Original Mix which is now True Heritage Brew's maiden and flagship product.

Vanilla Luxury: What makes the True Heritage Brew Singapore Sling® different from the others?

H S Chow: Our Singapore Sling is the original Singapore Sling recipe used in the Raffles Hotel in the 1990s. We have spent nearly two decades on research and product development to get it right.

H S Chow: The True Heritage Brew Singapore Sling® is versatile. It can be used as a base for other special creations such as our Lychee Sling, Chocolate Sling and many more.

Vanilla Luxury: Having spent the last 20 years creating the perfect cocktail mixes, which is your favourite Cocktail?

H S Chow: My True Heritage Brew Singapore Sling® as I enjoy the complexity of the taste from the 7 ingredients in it, mixed with 100% pineapple juice of course, and shaken, not stirred.
