Malaysia breaks world record for largest gathering in Spider-Man costume

6 Jun – Malaysia has recently broken the Guinness World Records for the largest gathering in Spider-Man Costume.

On 3 June, over thousands of people gathered at AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi in Selangor to witness the history making moment, as the country ended the previous record held by India, when 601 people dressed in the superhero costume came together in 2021.

The recent event was organised by Sony Pictures Malaysia and AEON Mall in celebration of the release of "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse" which was released on 1 June 2023.

The attempt started at 4pm at the Centre Court of AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi where people dressed as Spider-Man gathered into the designated attempt area. The Official Guinness World Record Adjudicator, Mr Kazuyoshi then announced the start of the attempt, and all people dressed as Spider-Man were required to remain in the attempt area for at least five minutes.

At 4:40 pm, the Official Guinness World Record Adjudicator, Mr Kazuyoshi then announced that Malaysia has successfully broken the record with a total of 685 Spider-Man.

The event ends with a certificate presentation ceremony from Guinness World Records to Managing Director of Sony Pictures Malaysia, Mr Simon Foo and Chief Property Officer of AEON, Mr Lee Beng Beng.

With a high 96% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" has received great reviews worldwide since the worldwide opening on 1 June. The film is currently the biggest animation opening day post pandemic.
