‘Making A Murderer’s Steven Avery & His Fiancée Sit Down With Dr. Phil
Making a Murderer‘s Steven Avery and his brand-new fiancée Lynn Hartman will speak out on syndicated talk show Dr. Phil (hosted by Dr. Phillip McGraw) in episodes airing Monday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 4.
Avery, profiled in Netflix’s Making A Murderer documentary, was convicted in 2007 for the murder of photographer, Teresa Halbach, and is currently serving life in prison at the Waupun Correctional Institute in Wisconsin. Hartman, a legal secretary, says she began writing to Avery earlier this year and just met him face to face two weeks ago.
In her first sit-down interview, Hartman describes how she found true love with Avery, one of America’s most notorious convicted killers, according to the show. Avery will join in via phone from prison where he talks about issues ranging “from his pending nuptials and his infamy to his hope that actor Brad Pitt portray him in a film about his life.” Of Hartman, Avery told McGraw, “I haven’t been in love my whole life. It’s not the same as the others. Everything is all different with her.”
The 10-episode Making a Murderer chronicled — and questioned — the murder convictions of Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, whose conviction was recently overturned by a federal judge. That ruling is now being appealed by the state of Wisconsin. When McGraw asked Avery about Dassey’s overturned conviction, Avery responded, “The truth is coming out and sooner or later all the truth will come out.” The Avery and Dassey case gained national attention after Netflix’s December premiere of the docu.
Dr. Phil is produced by Peteski Productions in association with CBS Television Distribution, which also distributes the show. Carla Pennington and Dr. Phillip C. McGraw are the executive producers.
