Whenever I want to feel especially glamorous, I find myself retracing make-up techniques of the 1990s supermodels.

There was something so polished about make-up in this era; everything was feline and feminine.

The lovely thing about this style is that the colour palette is very neutral, so no matter how daring you tend to go with your make-up, you’ll find elements of this that feel comfortable to you.

Foundation

For a really polished finish, I’d recommend using a full coverage foundation – something like the NARS All Day Luminous Foundation will create a completely flawless finish.

If you don’t want your look to feel too heavy, take a light layer of your foundation all over the skin, and then just press a little extra coverage into key areas.

Eyes

When it comes to the eyes, take neutral browns and smoky colours through the socket in a matte texture. NARS’ Loaded palette contains a variety of matte and shimmer shades in colours from soft cream to jet black.

We want to make your eye shape look larger. To achieve this, use a flesh colour all over the lid, a medium brown through the socket, and then a darker brown along the lash line and in the outer corners to create a feline shape. This will instantly flatter and enlarge all eye shapes, and keeping the textures matte will make this look more sultry than glitzy.

To polish the eyes and add even more of a feline quality, take a black kohl through the water line. Charlotte Tilbury’s Bedroom Black is creamy in texture but will dry to a budge-proof finish once you’ve applied it.

If you’d like, take the same pencil along the upper lash line to add a little flick to the top lashes. Since you’ve already added some darker shadow to this lash line, this touch will create a lovely blended gradient of dark colour blurring into light.

As for mascara, go for something volumizing like the Milk Make-up Kush mascara. Just when you think you’ve got enough on, add another layer. This make-up look is all about exaggerating every feminine quality!

Bronzer

When finishing your base, don’t be afraid to be precise with your bronzer placement.

Using a smaller brush than usual will help you to chisel rather than adding an all over glow. NARS bronzers have been a staple in my kit for many years because they wear beautifully and they come in a wide variety of shades. Sweep this along the forehead, down the temples and through the hollows of the cheeks.

Lips

When it comes to the ‘90s supermodel look, the defining statement lies in the lips.

Take a brown shade, much deeper than your natural lip colour, all around the edges of the lips, and feel free to over draw them a little. I love MAC Lip Liners because once they’re on they don’t move.

Then, take a lighter lipstick all over, and top with a layer of gloss to really exaggerate and plump the lips. I love MAC’s Nicola Chapman lipstick.

Depending on how bold you feel, the deeper the contrast between your lips and the liner, the more authentic your ‘90s vibe will feel.

Add a touch of Stila lip gloss to complete the look.
