Maine Mendoza on being rude to "Sugod Bahay" winner

21 Jun – Maine Mendoza has recently clarified the issue regarding the backlash over recent response to a "Sugod Bahay" winner's remarks about her dead son.

As reported on Inquirer, the actress faced criticisms from many recently, when a clip of her supposedly being rude to the winner of Eat Bulaga's "Sugod Bahay" went viral recently.

In the clip, Mendoza, along with her co-hosts Jose Manalo and Paolo Ballesteros, was seen visiting the said winner, mother-of-five Lenny Feliciano, who started crying while being interviewed.

The actress then made funny expressions with her face to the camera while Feliciano was speaking, and mimicked the latter's incoherent response when Joey de Leon, who was in the studio, asked her what Feliciano was saying.

Manalo later explained that Feliciano was actually saying that she was happy to win since she can finally bury her son.

Feliciano explained that her 16-year-old son, who had undergone dialysis, passed away recently from kidney complications.

"My son is still there, in a wake," she said, pointing to their house at the back.

Netizens who saw the clip quickly criticised Mendoza for being insensitive and making fun of Feliciano on television.

Mendoza had since responded to the issue following fans' concern, saying that it was a misunderstanding.

"We didn't know what she was going through at first since we didn't understand what she was initially saying," said the actress, adding that she and the other hosts also shared in Feliciano's grief.
