Magic Is on the Loose in 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' Comic-Con Trailer

After a panel-full of superheroes and giant apes, the Warner Bros. event at Comic-Con on Saturday concluded with some old-fashioned magic: the latest trailer for the Harry Potter-verse prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. (Watch it above.)

The new spot fills in more of the adventure’s plot than previous teasers have, featuring a light, sometimes whimsical, tone, several mischievous beasties, and the ominous struggle between the American magical world and the No-Maj (that’s “Muggles” to me and you) community that wants nothing to do with wands or wizards. Set in 1920s New York, the movie follows Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), an absent-minded wizard who brings a briefcase of beasts stateside for a magical congress, only to have several of them escape and start terrorizing the city. Newt, his new pal Jacob (Dan Fogler), and a witch named Tina (Katherine Waterson) have to track the beasts down before they attract the ire of the No-Maj militants. But who really are the bad guys here? “We’re going to recapture my creatures before they get hurt,” says Newt. “They’re currently in alien terrain surrounded by millions of the most vicious creatures on the planet — humans.”

Fantastic Beasts — directed by frequent Harry Potter helmer David Yates and written by J.K. Rowling herself — hits theaters on Nov. 18
