Clover Films and Golden Village Pictures announced this week that production on the Lunar New Year comedy, Reunion Dinner, had wrapped, and shared first-look pictures of the movie.

Reunion Dinner stars Lawrence Wong, Cya Liu, Mark Lee, Mimi Choo, Xiang Yun, Guo Liang, Zhu Hou Ren and Dasa Dharamahsena.

The movie distributors' press release describes the film as such:

Reunion Dinner follows the story of co-workers Chaoyang (Lawrence Wong) and Zihong (Cya Liu) who have been dating for more than a year, with marriage on the cards. When a client requests for a livestream of their reunion dinner to promote his products, the couple realises that neither have met the other’s family. Zihong is excited to finally get to meet Chaoyang’s mother, unaware of the latter’s estranged relationship with his mother.

Embarrassed by his mother Yanling’s (Xiang Yun) occupation as a mama-san, Chaoyang decides to engage the help of a friend, Wei (Mark Lee), to “rent-a-family”, resulting in a series of mishaps and hilarity.

The carefully constructed sham falls to pieces when the lie is eventually exposed over the reunion dinner on livestream. Will Chaoyang be able to repair the broken relationship with his mother and reconcile his differences with Zihong?

Production for Reunion Dinner, the first Singaporean movie to be filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic amidst stringent protocols and measures, concluded after a 23-day shoot.

“We had to put in twice the amount of effort because of manpower constraints during the pandemic. Every production member had to be more disciplined during the entire shooting period, to refrain from socialising and to be responsible towards each other,” said director Ong Kuo Sin (Number 1, Mr Unbelievable).

Here's a behind-the-scenes video of the shooting of Reunion Dinner:

Lead actor Singaporean Lawrence Wong, who is now based in China, can currently be seen in iQiyi's supernatural drama, The Ferryman: Legends Of Nanyang.

Lead actress, Cya Liu from China, said, "Coming to Singapore and taking part in this film gave me the chance to experience Lou Hei for the first time. I decided that if I get the chance, I will bring it back to my hometown this coming Lunar New Year and let my family try it as well."

Reunion Dinner is the first acting gig for Das Dharamahsena, or Das, from Night Owl Cinematics, who is known for his multi-lingual viral video mimicking Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s address to the nation about COVID-19 measures.

Reunion Dinner was produced by Clover Films and iQiyi, in association with King Kong Media Production, with production support from Akanga Film Asia.

The movie, slated for release in Lunar New Year 2022, will be distributed by Clover Films and Golden Village Pictures in Singapore, and iQiyi in China.
