Luk Ho Ming apologises for saying SARS came from Hong Kong

19 Feb – Luk Ho Ming (aka No.6) recently expressed his apology for mistakenly stating that Hong Kong was the source of the SARS epidemic in 2003.

As reported on Mingpao, the issue sparked recently when the actor who hosted the TVB programme, "Young and Restless" made the blunder of saying that the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome that killed 774 people in early 2000s came from Hong Kong, before he was corrected by co-host Crystal Fung.

Although he immediately apologised for his mistake, some netizens decided to share a screenshot of the statement on social media, which had since turned viral and sparked anger among Hong Kong citizens.

Following the backlash, Luk took to social media to apologise yet again, saying, "I'm really sorry. I know the source of SARS was from Guangzhou. It was a slip of the tongue... Crystal has also corrected it."

Luk stated that the mistake that he made coupled with the lack of appropriate editing has caused the misunderstanding, and for that he is sorry.

"What I meant to say was that there was a large-scale outbreak of SARS in Hong Kong that year. I will punish myself by saying I am sorry 100 times. I hope everybody can forgive me for the misinformation," he added.
