‘Loving’ To Inaugurate Film Screenings At National Museum Of African American History & Culture

Focus Features’ Loving will be the first theatrical film to screen at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.. Monday evening’s invitation-only screening of the Jeff Nichols drama at the newly opened museum’s Oprah Winfrey Theater will be preceded by a reception and panel discussion with the writer/director and stars Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga.

Loving, set for a November 4 limited release with a subsequent expansion, is a biopic about the real-life Richard and Mildred Loving, whose interracial marriage became the center of the landmark civil rights case Loving v. Virginia in 1967.

The screening on Monday evening will be co-hosted by the Museum and Comcast Corporation (Focus Features is part of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast). The Museum opened September 24, and included the debut of the Museum-commissioned 22-minute film August 28: A Day In The Life Of A People, directed by Ava DuVernay. The short film will play daily at the Museum.
