Love and 'resources' among important factors when raising a family, says Julianne Moore

At the age of 56, Hollywood actress Julianne Moore continues to be a powerful role model for many women around the world. Having starred in several memorable films such “Hannibal” and “Children of Men”, and recently being the face of new lingerie collection Florale by prominent brand Triumph, Moore has also been a strong supporter of planned parenthood.

For a number of years now, the mother of two has been an advocate for the non-profit organisation Planned Parenthood America, which provides support focusing on reproductive health care and sex education, among others.

Considering the continuous decrease in the birth rate in Singapore, which dipped in 2016 to 1.2 according to the Department of Statistics, Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore checked in with the actress to find out her thoughts on what makes a healthy environment for raising a family.

“A healthy environment for a family is one where every child is a wanted and loved child, and the family has the resources to care for them,” said Moore, who married film director Bart Freundlich, 47, in 2003.

Her first marriage was to actor and director John Gould Rubin, which lasted from 1986 to 1995. It appears that Moore also doesn’t see any issues with women marrying late, so long as “you feel ready”, she said.

Being the face of Triumph’s Florale campaign

Julianne Moore isn’t the only mature woman who has been chosen to front beauty and fashion campaigns. Other brands such as Marc Jacobs Beauty have tapped on models such as actress Jessica Lange, currently in her 60s, to front a campaign.

“It is a pleasure to represent a company that is dedicated to making women feel so beautiful,” said Moore, when asked how she felt about being chosen by Triumph.

When it comes to picking lingerie, Moore shared that she likes different kinds of lingerie for different situations. “For everyday, I wear pieces that are neutral or black. I wear more colourful pieces for special occasions,” she said.

“We always choose lingerie very carefully for the red carpet. It is very important that it suits the dress, offers support, and is not visible!” she added. In May, Moore stunned in a Givenchy couture gown at the Cannes Film Festival Opening Gala that had transparent shoulders and back.

If Moore could turn back time and advise her younger self about beauty, it would be, “stay out of the sun, find an exercise you actually like doing, and invest in your personal life”. Moore, who loves doing yoga, also makes sure she has these beauty products in her bag – lipstick, blush and concealer.
