"So Long, My Son" wins big at Golden Rooster Awards

26 Nov – The family drama, "So Long, My Son" recently became the big winner at the 32nd Golden Rooster Awards.

As reported on Mingpao, the movie, which tells the story of one family dealing with the loss of their son, won three accolades - Best Scriptwriter, Best Lead Actor for Wang Jingchun and Best Lead Actress for Yong Mei - at the event held on 23 November in Fujian.

Wang, who won Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlinale earlier in February this year, stated that he didn't expect to repeat the win at the same event, as did his leading lady Yong Mei, who also won Silver Bear for Best Actress at the same festival.

Meanwhile, Yong stated that she has always wanted to be involved in a good project with good script, good director, and good co-stars, and was lucky to have been blessed with the said film at the age of 49.

On the other hand, Hong Kong filmmaker Dante Lam won Best Director for his big-budget film, "Operation Red Sea", while the sci-fi blockbuster "The Wandering Earth" won Best Feature Film.

The Golden Rooster Awards, which had previously been held on alternate years since 2005, will be held annually again beginning this year.

Many believed that the event was intentionally held on the same day as the Golden Horse Awards as a response to China's anger towards the Taiwanese independence movement and the vocal backlash of some of Taiwanese celebrities against the central government.
