Did you take advantage of lockdown to revamp your home interior? Well, you're not alone. In recent months, homeowners around the world have been busy upgrading their interiors with DIY home decor projects. According to a new Australian study, London stands out as the trend's global capital city.
London is the city in which DIY enthusiasts have been busiest rolling up their sleeves to give their homes a makeover. From a lick of paint to new furniture and more, Londoners were quick to show off their endless creativity on Instagram, sharing 961 posts with the hashtag, #DIYhomedecor.
New York and Los Angeles take second and third place in the ranking from Australian insurers, Budget Direct, with 825 and 616 pictures respectively posted on Instagram from these locations with the #DIYhomedecor hashtag.
The US, however, tops the list of countries where homeowners have the biggest appetite for amateur interior design. A total of 26,476 pictures with the hashtag #DIYhomedecor were posted from the country, compared to just 5,055 from the UK.
Bangalore, Mumbai and Toronto also land places in the top 10 global cities with a taste for DIY home decor projects. Houston comes in 10th place with 287 Instagram posts with the #DIYhomedecor hashtag.
The study also identified the most popular home decoration styles for revamping interiors as modern, vintage, rustic, boho and cottage.
To establish its rankings, the study analyzed 500,000 Instagram posts tagged with #DIYhomedecor. The data was collected in June 2020.
