‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’: Netflix Spins Trailer & Date For Docu On DJ Steve Aoki

Fire up your glow sticks and rekindle your PLUR: Netflix said today that its documentary on Steve Aoki will start streaming on August 19. The service also released a trailer and poster for I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead: The Loud Life of Steve Aoki, director Justin Krook pic about one of EDM’s biggest stars.

Described as “heart-pumping yet heart-wrenching,” the film follows Aoki — who started a music label out of his college apartment 18 years ago — in the lead-up to his biggest concert ever. It also looks at the DJ’s complex relationship with his father, Rocky Aoki, the Benihana tycoon and former Olympic wrestler, who succeeded by making his business ambitions his first priority. Always trying to gain Dad’s approval, Aoki’s global success was bittersweet because he shot to the top after his father’s death in 2008.

Relativity acquired the pic just ahead of its sales launch at Cannes last year, and its streaming deal is part of Netflix’s pact with the formerly bankrupt studio. It is produced by David Gelb — Krook’s business partner — Matthew Weaver, Matt Colon and Happy Walters. Michael Mailis is the executive producer.
