Liverpool are reportedly ready to push for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, with Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure proving to be too expensive.
It’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in one more quality midfielder before the transfer window slams shut on Friday night.
Liverpool have already brought in Alexis Mac Allister (£35m) and Wataru Endo (£16m) this summer.
However, given the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since last season, they could certainly do with another centre-mid.
They have missed out on two top targets already – Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both opted to join Chelsea instead of the Reds.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Liverpool have considered a move for Doucoure as an alternative to the duo.
The 23-year-old signed for Crystal Palace last summer. He has so far made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles in all competitions, making three assists. He generally plays as a defensive midfielder.
Roy Hodgson is desperate to keep Doucoure for at least another season, however, and has slapped a £70m price tag on him.
This is thought to be too expensive for Liverpool, who will once again have to turn to alternatives.
Liverpool ramp up Gravenberch pursuit
According to 90Min, Liverpool are now prioritising a move for Gravenberch, who Bayern Munich are willing to sell for a cheaper fee than initially anticipated.
The Dutchman is thought to be ‘frustrated’ by his lack of consistent playing time withR the Bundesliga giants and is open to a move to the Premier League.
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Gravenberch in the past, too, but it is Liverpool who are currently leading the race for his signature.
90Min’s report notes that Bayern have ‘relaxed their stance’ on selling Gravenberch. They are now asking for just £20m for the highly-rated midfielder.
The 21-year-old signed for Bayern last summer after impressing at his previous club Ajax. He has so far made 33 appearances for the German club, scoring one goal and making one assist.
He hasn’t made a single appearance this season yet, though, which only increases the likelihood that Thomas Tuchel is willing to let him leave.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool make a concrete bid for Gravenberch in the next few days.
