Liverpool, Man City to engage in two-way battle for Brighton sensation as Klopp eyes double Seagulls swoop
Pundit and former player Don Hutchison has tipped Liverpool or Manchester City to sign Brighton left-back Pervis Estupinan this summer.
The Ecuador international has been a key player under Roberto de Zerbi, with the Seagulls currently sitting in an impressive sixth place in the Premier League table.
However, Brighton could be set to lose some of their best players when the transfer window opens. Now, it has been predicted that Estupinan could be on the move.
This season, the left-back has made 31 league appearances for Brighton. In the process, he has helped his team to 10 clean sheets, as well as scoring one goal and making six assists.
As a result, Estupinan has been getting rave reviews from pundits, and some top Premier League teams could look to sign him this summer.
As mentioned, he isn’t the only Brighton star who could leave. Alexis Mac Allister is also being heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool, while Man City have registered an interest in the Argentine, too.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how many of his players De Zerbi will be able to hold onto.
Hutchison: ‘Be prepared’ for Estupinan bids
Liverpool are expected to bring in several recruits this summer, as Jurgen Klopp eyes a return to the top of the Premier League.
A new left-back isn’t thought to be one of Klopp’s priorities. But, as mentioned, Estupinan has been excellent for Brighton this season, so he could be tempted into launching an offer.
Man City, on the other hand, could definitely do with some cover at left-back. Pep Guardiola has opted to use the likes of Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji in that position recently, but, they are naturally centre-halves.
Interestingly, the Cityzens came close to signing Marc Cucurella from Brighton before he made the £65m switch to Chelsea last summer. Now, they could be set to go in for another Seagulls star.
This is according to Hutchison, who has been extremely impressed with Estupinan this season.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, he said: “Pervis Estupinan, I think he can play for Manchester City or Liverpool,” said Hutchison. “I think he is that good. So, be prepared for some bids to come in.
“But they proved when they signed Estupinan for £17 million. They sold Marc Cucurella for £65 million. They have some network there.”
Indeed, it seems likely Brighton would demand a similar fee for Estupinan to the one they sold Cucurella for. So, they could be set to make a tidy profit this summer.
