7 Sep – Chinese author Liu Cixin says there is still a long way to go after Netflix announced that it will be adapting his sci-fi work, "The Three-Body Problem" into a TV series, to be helmed by "Game of Thrones" showrunner, David Benioff and DB Weiss.
As reported on Tencent, Ciu, who spoke to the media about the project stated that it was just recently that he signed the contract and that this is just the beginning of many more things to come.
"I love "Game of Thrones". Regardless whether it's bad or not, the previous seasons of the show have been highly-rated," he said.
On the other hand, Ji Shaoting, the head of Future Affairs Administration said, "We paid attention to the entire negotiation process of the adaptation and we have a better understanding of some of the situation. The negotiations have been happening for a while now."
She added that the adaptation is a good thing for Chinese science fiction.
When mentioned that many people were worried about them working with Benioff and Weiss following the widely panned final season of the HBO series, Ji stated that she believes that the lineup of the core creative team reflects the production scale of this first-class project, and also reflects the team's in-depth understanding of science fiction.
"The Three-Body Problem" is a trilogy depicting an alien civilization's invasion of Earth during China's Culture Revolution, centering on a secret military project that enables humans to establish contact with the alien civilization.
