Linda Wong and sister accept lifetime award on behalf of father

26 Nov – Singer Linda Wong and sister Wong Ka Lau recently took to the Golden Horse stage to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of their actor father, Jimmy Wang.

As reported on Mingpao, the two sisters, who accepted the award from filmmaker Ang Lee, couldn't help but cry as they expressed their gratitude to the Golden Horse committee for the recognition.

Said Linda, "This award is very important to our father, but he was ill and could not attend. Our father has not been well these past few years."

Her sister added that Jimmy became ill eight months ago, but is showing signs of improvement.

"He is undoubtedly a martial arts hero in everyone's mind. He is very straightforward, which might have offended some people, but he always lives up to his promises, treats his friends well, and loves his family," she said.

Aside from Jimmy, filmmaker Wang Toon was also honoured with the same award.

Jimmy, who started his career in the '60s, shot to stardom through his 1967 movie, "One-Armed Swordsman". He has also been nominated at the Golden Horse Awards three times before, including Best Supporting Actor in 2011 for "Wu Xia".
