Linda Manz, Star of ‘Days of Heaven,’ Dies at 58
Actress Linda Manz, best known for her roles in movies like “Out of the Blue” and “Days of Heaven,” has died. She was 58.
Manz, according to a GoFundMe page set up by her son, Michael Guthrie, died on Friday after battling both lung cancer and pneumonia.
“She leaves behind a husband, two son’s [sic] and three grand children [sic] who all love and miss her tremendously,” the GoFundMe tribute said. “Linda was a loving wife, a caring mom, a wonderful grandma and a great friend who was loved by many. what ever you can do to help with the funeral will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless. Rest in peace we love you MOM.”

Manz’s first role came at the age of 15 when she appeared in “Days of Heaven,” a 1978 drama starring Richard Gere and directed by Terrence Malick. She played Gere’s younger sister Linda, who ends up ditching town with Gere’s character after he kills his boss at a steel mill. Manz went on to appear in “The Wanderers” a year later and “Out of the Blue,” where she played a teenage punk rocker. Later film credits included a supporting role in David Fincher’s 1997 film “The Game” starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn.
Ken Wahl, who appeared alongside Manz in “The Wanderers” paid tribute to her on his Facebook page. “She was great to work with and I am grateful that I got to speak with her before she passed this morning. RIP Peewee,” Wahl wrote, referencing her character’s name in the movie.
Other stars paid their respects, as well, including actress Chloe Sevigny and Natasha Lyonne. Sevigny, who has mentioned her admiration for Manz’s work in the past, posted a picture of Manz from “Days in Heaven” on her Instagram last night. Lyonne tweeted “Rest in Peace #LindaManz” and asked her followers to vote on their favorite movie Manz appeared in.

Manz married camera operated Bobby Guthrie in 1985, according to People Magazine, and had three sons together, Michael, Christopher and William.
The family has received a little more than $9,000 towards the funeral costs on its GoFundMe page as of Saturday morning; the family was ultimately looking to raise $10,000.
