Japanese furniture brand Nitori's first Singapore outlet in Orchard: What to expect
There are several staples for furniture shopping in Singapore, whether you're actively populating your dream home, or looking for a place to walk through and dream about owning a home.
And with Japanese retail brand Nitori's first Singapore outlet opening on Thursday (31 March), furniture lovers will have another place to explore, this time in the heart of Orchard Road.
Located on level four of COURTS Nojima The Heeren, the 31,630 sq ft showroom will be Nitori's second in Southeast Asia. If you're wondering how big that is, well, an average HDB 4-room flat is about 900 to 1,000 sq ft.
Yahoo Southeast Asia visited the store ahead of its opening, and our first impression was that it's a huge space.
We're sure you already got the idea from our size comparison, but Nitori's Singapore outlet is very large.
With interior themes such as Simple, Natural, Vintage, Feminine and Japanese Modern, there's likely to be something for everyone.
But it wasn't just the furniture area. The home accessories area, too, feels really spacious (although we can't guarantee it'll feel quite the same once the crowds return), and there was that definite calmness that usually permeates Japanese retail stores.
Whether you're looking for an electric reclining sofa, or just that perfect pillow, or simply hoping to find dining sets that look like they were actually made with Singapore's "fun-sized" homes in mind, you're likely not going to be disappointed.
We even got a chance to try out Nitori's N-Cool line of bedding products, which are antibacterial with deodorising treatment, water-absorbent, quick-drying, machine washable, and best of all — able to absorb body heat and leave a cooling touch upon contact.
That last part is, of course, especially wonderful, given Singapore's weather and the impacts of climate change. Nitori is also big on being eco-conscious, so remember to bring your own bags if you're doing some shopping.
You can still buy small, medium and large eco shopping bags priced between $1.90 and $3.90, if you don't have your own. Plastic bags are also available if needed, and will be charged at $0.10 each.
If, for some reason, Orchard is currently out of the question for you, don't worry. Nitori said it has plans to open 10 stores in Singapore over the next five years, as part of its bigger aim to have 3,000 stores across the world by 2032.
