Amanda Kloots reveals the special nod to late husband Nick Cordero in her new movie: 'I just want to feel like he's with me'
Amanda Kloots honored her late husband Nick Cordero in a very special way in her upcoming film.
The TV personality co-wrote and stars in holiday romance Fit For Christmas, which airs on CBS on Dec. 4. In the new movie, Audrey plays a fitness enthusiast who falls for a businessman named Griffin (Paul Greene), unaware of his plans to tear down her beloved community center. Kloots shared that a costume Audrey wears in the film once belonged to Cordero.
"I was leaving to shoot one day and it was cold that morning so I grabbed his [Nick's] flannel shirt that I wear a lot when I just want to feel like he's with me and I put it on,” the actress told People in an exclusive interview about the movie.
When the crew had to change a scene and couldn’t find something appropriate for Kloots to wear, she pulled out the flannel shirt — which ended up being ideal for the moment.
"The scene is with my dad in the movie and I was like, 'I'm just going to wear this. It's like I put on my dad's flannel, but it's Nick's.' It really is a beautiful scene because in the scene, the dad is saying, 'Sometimes, your life path takes a different journey,’” Kloots explained.
Kloots shared her three-year-old son Elvis with Cordero, who died in 2020 of complications from COVID-19. Since Cordero’s death, The Talk co-host has been open about her grief and struggling to move on. In a conversation with Jana Kramer on the podcast Whine Down, Kloots said she’s had challenging conversations with her young son about his father’s death.
“I just say ‘Dada got sick, he went to the hospital and he died and he lives in heaven. And he's around as always, and he's always watching you and you can always talk to him,’” Kloots said of how she explains where Cordero is.
While appearing on iHeartRadio's The Important Things with Bobbi Brown podcast, the Entertainment Tonight correspondent said her son claims to remember his dad, despite being very young when Cordero died.
"I don't know if that's because we watch so many videos together of Nick or because I talk about Nick so much, but he does say that,” she said. “I'm going with it."
In a 2021 interview with Yahoo Life, Kloots spoke about living with grief.
“I think we have two choices in life when you go through something traumatic," she noted. "You can let it take you over — and trust me, there are days that it does, there are days that it did. But your other choice is to keep on living and keep on striving and finding these silver linings."
