Leslie Jones Hack Now A Homeland Security Investigation

The widespread hack of Leslie Jones’ personal information and photos yesterday is now being investigated by Homeland Security, the federal department confirmed today.

“ICE Homeland Security Investigations in New York does currently have an open investigation,” a DHS spokesperson said Thursday. Not that the feds said much else on the matter. “As a matter of agency policy, we are unable to disclose any information related to an active investigation.”

Just over a month after Jones was vehemently and hatefully attacked on social media, hackers seemingly got into the Ghostbusters and Saturday Night Live star’s iCloud account on Wednesday. They grabbed information on the likes of her passport, driver’s license and explicit personal photos. Soon afterwards, the info was posted to Jones’ personal website with accompanying derogatory imagery. The JustLeslie.com site was soon taken down and replaced by a GoDaddy holding page. A link to the site was also removed from Jones’ usually active Twitter feed – which the comedian has not posted to in over a day now.

The participation of DHS in the matter could suggest that the hackers came from overseas. One theory making the rounds is that the hack was a retaliation for Breitbart columnist Milo Yiannopoulos being suspended from Twitter permanently for his part in the July attacks on Jones.

Yesterday, Yiannopoulos took a much more measured approach.

“I’m distressed to hear that Leslie Jones has been hacked and naked pictures of her have been posted online,” he said in a statement. “I know we had our differences after my review of Ghostbusters but I wish her all the best at what must be a deeply upsetting time.”

Jones’ reps and NBC have not commented on the hack.
