12 Mar – Although fans of Leslie Cheung would usually meet up on the anniversary of the superstar's death, this year, the Leslie Cheung International Fan Club decided to forgo the event altogether due to COVID-19.
As reported on Mingpao, the news was shared on the United Leslie Facebook page on 10 March, which read, "As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, we feel so sorry to inform you that the public event of 401 this year will be cancelled. In view of this, the coming 401 Commemorative Event will be held on social media platforms with details to be announced later on."
"Please note that the Floral Tribute at Mandarin Oriental Hotel (Ice House Street), Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and the Avenue of Stars has to be cancelled due to security reasons. Leslieforever, That's Leslie & United Leslie will not be responsible for any issues arisen owing to unauthorised floral tributes, gifts and cleanup at the above places as mentioned."
The page also reminded fans to avoid floral tributes at the said locations or will be fully responsible for all liabilities (civil or criminal) arising thereof.
It is noted that the fans would bring flowers and cards to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Central on the said date every year to mourn the actor, who took his own life in 2003 after battling depression.
