Leon Lai understands brotherhood more than romance

24 Mar - Leon Lai is known more for his dramatic films than action-packed movies, which is why his decision to direct an action movie was surprising to many.

However, as reported on Seehua, the actor, who appeared at the press conference to promote his directorial debut "Wine Wars" recently, said that in reality, he is not romance movie material.

"I think that I understand brotherhood and the friendship between men more than I understand romance. I am an only child, so that makes me more attuned to such relationships," he said.

The story of "Wine Wars" revolves around an 1855 vintage wine, and how a Chinese sommelier finds himself sucked into an age-old feud when he was asked to auction it on behalf of the Chinese government. The movie also co-stars Zhang Hanyu, Lily Ji, and Du Juan.

Leon also revealed that model-actress Du Juan was his first choice while casting for the movie.

When asked why, he responded, "She is a model. She has been around the world. The role also has the back story of being A Chinese who grew up in France, so she is suitable for the job."

On the other hand, Du Juan stated that one of the reasons why she said yes to the role was to work with Leon, who both directed and starred in the movie.

"Leon as a director is very strict and serious. But as an actor, he is very kind and gentle. Since he has been acting for many years, he takes good care of his co-stars and understands us very much," she said.
