Proving that she’s a lover of getting inked, Lena Dunham has shared how having tattoos gives her ownership of her body, and we absolutely love what she has to say.

Now, we know that when it comes to Lena Dunham and her body, the actor, writer, and producer often shares how comfortable she feels in her own skin. It’s a pretty empowering and inspiring message, and Dunham often calls people out when they obsess over her weight. For example, she gave an EPIC burn to a magazine who used her picture on the cover of a “diet tips” special.

Indeed, part of the way that Lena Dunham says she stays in control her body — despite its willingness to act on its own accord whether due to illness or just life — is through her tattoos.

The star shared a few snaps on her Instagram story where she spoke about getting a few new tattoos recently and her motive behind doing it was.

“Been tatting myself up like crazy this month,”

Dunham wrote. “I think it gives me a sense of control and ownership of a body that’s often beyond my control.”

She then shared two pictures of her latest tattoos, a giant rose and some little babies/dolls with a bucket of tears.

Lena Dunham’s latest tattoos follow the star’s naked selfie on Instagram, in which she showed off the other parts of her body art, and shared her thoughts about her own body positivity.

“I spent so many years loving my body but thinking it wasn’t lovable by others- its sole purpose was to be fodder for jokes. I performed the insult so no one else could,” she wrote. “I don’t regret any of it- that’s my art and that was my truth- but now, at age 31, having been through hell and back with my health and other people’s perceptions of my physicality, I feel deeply comfortable with the idea that this pear-shaped pot of honey is equally good for making people laugh and laying out like a Suicide Girl circa 2004. Love it all.”

We have to say, not only are we loving Lena Dunham’s body positivity, but we’re loving her tattoos, too. As she notes, it’s her way of exerting control over her body, and we totally respect and admire that. Keep doing you, Lena!
